Halfway Down the Rabbit Hole

"Do you have any idea how much insurance is on a Ferrari?"

We're well into there NHL strike/lockout and it pretty much seems as if there's going to be no NHL league this year. No stars playing hockey, no great passes, no great shots or one-timers, no great saves. This might be just me but I've seen a decline in hockey. I don't watch much of the games, only the big ones (Stanley Cup finals, All Stars, Olympic, World Cup etc.), Especially Olympic and World Cup hockey, where Canada plays against other teams around the world. The last World Cup was great, thought it would have been nice to face team USA in the finals.

The reason i prefer the big games to regular NHL games now is that regular NHL games are made up of too many grunts. Yes, Grunts. In video games these were/are the characters that didnt' say anything nor do much in the game, just try to take you down. In the hockey context, they will check you, trip you, hook you, hold you; without much concern for trying to control the puck. In the big games you have players that can skate fast (and well), handle the puck, pass well and set up great shots that fans will be talking about well after the game is over.

Normally I wouldn't complain as the good stars still shine, but this lockout has me a little peeved. Especially since about 250 of them are playing in Europe. Sure they can play hockey there but here's the kicker: THEY'RE PLAYING FOR ABOUT $100,000 AND THEY WON'T PLAY HERE FOR LESS THAN $1,000,000.

Hockey were better if it were golf. In golf you have to show up, play and do well before you see a decent amount of money. Say...i dunno, $150 per goal, $25 per save, -$25 per penalty, and $100 per suspension (excluding any fines, which can be added). These values may not be fair as they are but you get the idea.
